The biggest factor in terms of pricing is the material that you use for the clapboard, popular materials include plywood, vinyl, fiber cement siding, engineered wood and real wood boards such as pine or oak.
-- Price Range: $3.50 to $7.50 psf installed -- Cost of the ClapboardEntry to mid grade clapboard will usually run anywhere from $.75 to a $1.25 per square foot. This is for plywood, low-end vinyl siding and perhaps even unprimed fiber cement boards. Mid range to premium clapboard siding will run anywhere from $1.50 to $2.50 per square foot. This includes primed and painted fiber cement boards, many of the engineered wood siding, an insulated or foam backed vinyl siding and painted and primed pine or oak boards.
Additional Project MaterialsAdditional project materials will usually cost anywhere from $1 - $2 per square foot. This will include such materials as starter courses, collated nails, trim pieces, housewrap, J and F channels, soffits and all additional decorative pieces and project requirements.
Installation PricingInstallation pricing will run $1 to $3 per square foot. The cost to prime and/or paint boards will usually run a dollar per square foot and is typically the reason for this upper end installation cost. Fiber cement boards tend to be heavier then vinyl and require a specialize cutting tool and will therefore be more expensive than a simple plywood or pine board.
Completed Project PricesClapboard projects that use a lower grade product or less expensive product and require a relatively simple installation will typically run $ 3- $5 fully installed. More complex projects that use more expensive clapboard materials will run $5 - $7.50 per square foot fully installed.
